“KONK! KONK! You finally KONK came! You certainly took your KONK time!”
Konk, The Legendary Starfy

Konk (known in Japan as Bonbone) is a recurring boss in the The Legendary Starfy series. He is the first boss in the first four games of the series, and also the bonus boss in level 9 of the The Legendary Starfy. He is a well known bully who constantly pesters Starfy and his friends, however he is hardly considered a dangerous threat and is seen as more of an annoying nuisance. He appears to have an odd quirk where in the middle of his sentences, he tends to blurt out the word, "KONK!", hence his name.

History

Densetsu no Starfy

In this game, Konk is fought during the events in Coral Reef. After Starfy saves Moe from the Fork brothers, he tells Starfy that Konk kidnapped Ruby while he was talking to her. Starfy then saved her by beating Konk.

Starfy and Konk's first encounter.

Densetsu no Starfy 2

Konk returns, but this time in the fourth stage of Lobber's Cave. He shows up to the shock of Starfy and Moe, with Puchi Ogura #1 alongside him. Recognizing Moe, Konk insults him, saying things like he's lame, Ruby rejected him, and that he'll steal Ruby again if they can't open a locked door that requires 3 keys (the Circle/Triangle/Square Keys). Konk's boss fight is just like the boss fight in Starfy 1, initially moving left and right along the ground, but starting to jump to the surface (and out of) the water to attack. Unlike later fights in the game, Puchi Ogura #1 doesn't seem do anything, nor do they appear before Konk is defeated.

Densetsu no Starfy 3

Appearing again in Lobber's Cave, Konk used a Helmet to protect his head and make him invulnerable to Star Spins. Starly overhears that exposing Konk to a Light for too long makes Konk too hot while wearing the Helmet, so she moves the Light to have Konk stand underneath it for ten seconds. This proves too much for Konk and the Helmet flies towards Starly, which Starly picks up.

Just after, Konk corners her and he threatens to hurt her unless she gives him his helmet back. Starfy and Moe come just in the nick of time. Konk retreats, but Starfy follows him and ends up beating him again.

Densetsu no Starfy 4

Konk appears once again, but this time with a different shell and darker eye lids. He claims to have been powered up by “The Queen” (later confirmed to be Degil), and can now perform a cloning technique (ひっさつ『ぶんしんのじゅつ』/ “Special Move: Clone Jutsu”). Amiiyoshino later tells Starfy, Starly, and Moe that by using the Mon Amour Stone, Dejeel can power up whomever she sees fit. During the events in Lobber's Villa, he steals a rose required to enter the Spring of Love, but Starfy manages to beat him again for the fourth time.

The Legendary Starfy

Konk appears in The Legendary Starfy as the boss of the ninth level, Pufftop where he is fought by Starly. After managing to break into the royal castle while it was under attack by Mashtooth's minions, he encountered Starly and challenged her to a battle thinking that this time he would achieve victory and get his revenge for his previous defeats, however like always he was defeated by the younger sister of his arch rival, but this would not quell his desire for victory and he continued to challenge Starly every time they encountered each other, but despite his numerous tries he failed to defeat her. He later makes an appearance on the "The Moe Show" where he is looking for Starfy in hopes of asking for his autograph (however this scene should not be taken seriously and was most likely added for comical effect and does not mean that Konk has given up his rivalry with Starfy).

Toy Description

  • EN Description:

1) Not only does he jump, but he also attacks using his precious KONK! shell.

2) This guy KONK! has a strange KONK! speech pattern KONK! Oh no, it’s KONKtagious!

  • JP Translation:

1) He jumps and attacks with that shell he’s so proud of. He’s the same as ever.

2) Looks like he was waiting for us in Pufftop, but we never actually met him.

Appearance

Konk is a sky blue colored sea whelk who lives in a Tannish peach colored conch shell, or possibly a "KONK!" shell according to his Toy description from The Legendary Starfy. When appearing in Densetsu no Starfy 4, he had a much more colorful shell, which had a small heart and also yellowish orange spikes. Konk has gills on his head, which likely help him breath above and below water. Konk also has two paws which he uses to hold onto his shell.

Personality

Konk is more of a harmless bully than an actual enemy to Starfy and his friends. He loves Ruby, and often gets into fights with Moe because of Moe's love of Ruby.

The Legendary Starfy describes him as "More harmless than harmful."

Attacks

Starfy fighting Konk in the commercial for Densetsu no Starfy.

Konk will spin rather fast. Starfy or Starly will have to attack him from above.

In Densetsu no Starfy, if the player battles Konk again after defeating Ogura, Konk will jump more regularly after receveing damage and will gain a new attack where he jumps off screen and then plummets down to attempt to crush Starfy.

In Densetsu no Starfy 3, Konk gains a new attack in which he stops in place for a second, holds his breath and spins very fast. This attack leaves Konk dizzy for a few seconds though, rendering him vulnerable to attack.

In Densetsu no Starfy 4, Konk has a new attack. He will jump high off screen, and a few second's later, Konk and a duplicate of his shell will drop from above! He also shields himself with his shell helmet from Densetsu no Starfy 3.

In The Legendary Starfy, he re-uses his shell helmet to protect his head during his jump attacks, and spins fast. When Konk's health is low, he will cover the boss arena in a net and attempt to spear Starly! Turbo Swim left or right in the net and dodge Konk's attack!

Trivia

The unused model named "Bonebone" in Densetsu no Starfy 4 and the Japanese version of Super Princess Peach
  • Konk is one of the few characters that have appeared in every The Legendary Starfy series game so far.
  • Konk is the only boss that appeared in every game.
  • Konk, along with Ogura and Bankirosu, are the only bosses that appear in more than one game.
  • If one looks closely at Ogura, it can be noticed that they bear a resemblance without the shell and with fiery hair.
  • In Densetsu no Starfy 2, Puchi Ogura #1 rides on his head, but does not seem to help him in his battle with Starfy in any way like most of the Puchi Ogura.
  • Konk is not the only character with an odd speech pattern.
  • In Densetsu no Starfy 4 and the Japanese version of Super Princess Peach, there is an unused 3D model of Konk named "Bonebone". The texture file is lacking Konk's upgraded shell from the Densetsu no Starfy 4 boss battle.
    • This model appears in an unused panorama named 'stage02'.
  • In every game after the first, Konk makes use of “something new” in his fights. In Starfy 2, he “fights alongside” Puchi Ogura #1, in Starfy 3, he learns a new skill literally translated as the “Super Rotation Spin” (チョーかいてんスピン), in Starfy 4, Dejeel’s power up allowed him to clone himself, and in Starfy 5, he makes use of a net to attempt to attack Starly.
