Old Man Mechani is a sea turtle, inventor and mechanic. He is the one that lets the player use the Blimp. He has only appeared in the Game Boy Advance games.

In Densetsu no Starfy 2

Starfy meets Old Man Mechani in the third stage of Gluglug Lagoon and he is, once again, researching Blimps. He asks if Starfy would like to help him with his research, and after doing so, is given the Blimp. For helping him, he unlocks a door leading to the Prince's Mantle Stuff Item.

Post Game

During the post game, if the player talks to Mechani, he says that he's made a new kind of Blimp and asks if he wants to try it out. The Blimp upgrade features a jet that, by pressing and holding the B button, allows the Blimp to gain a burst of speed. When Starfy reaches Mechani, he calls the Jet Blimp a complete success, and tells Starfy that he saw a treasure up ahead (the contents of which is the Sheet Music for Slippery Glacier). If Starfy talks to Old Man Mechani again, he notes that his talent scares even him for both the Blimp and Jet Blimp to be successful experiments.

In Densetsu no Starfy 3

Instead of meeting Old Man Mechani, Starfy, Moe, and Starly meet Mechani Genius for the first time, worrying about his grandfather. Old Man Mechani decided to move on from experimenting with blimps to experimenting with balloons, but hasn't come back yet. After popping the balloon he tied himself to with Mechani Genius' Pogo Stick, he says that he's had enough of balloons and thanks the trio by giving them the Intelli-Specs. If Starfy talks to Old Man Mechani and his grandson again, he'll ask if Starly is his little sister, and then remark that she seems a bit more dependable than Starfy does.

Post Game

If Starfy or Starly speaks to Old Man Mechani during the post game (after getting the upgraded Pogo Stick), he'll ask the siblings how it feels to use the upgraded Pogo Stick, with Mechani Genius chiming in, boasting that it obviously feels amazing.

Name Origin

  • Old Man Mechani's name, Mekani-jiisan, most likely comes from mechanic/mekanikku (メカニック) and Jiisan (爺さん) meaning old man.

  • Old Man Mechani, like many old men in the series, uses the pronoun Washi in Japanese.
  • While not proven, he may have been influenced by Tose's The Invention King series on their official website.
  • If his iQue name, 机蟹爷爷, is anything to go by, Mechani may actually be a crab of some sort (most likely hermit crab).
