The Game Over screen from The Legendary Starfy

For the tune, see Game Over (music).

Game Over (Japanese: ゲームオーバー) is the menu that appears when Starfy or Starly lose all hearts or health points in The Legendary Starfy series. Most of the time, Starfy or Starly will pull off their 'death' (Done For) pose and fall through the bottom of the screen before this menu loads. The player can choose either to continue from the last save or return to the Title Screen. If the player loses in Big Bossdown a similar Game Over screen appears with the text "Ouch! Try again another time!" and the times that Starfy or Starly beat the bosses.

In Densetsu no Starfy, the Game Over screen shows a black background with Starfy pouting while Old Man Lobber has his back turned. If the player chooses to continue, the background turns into a Beach and Starfy and Old Man Lobber wave goodbye to each other as Starfy continues his quest, if the player chooses to quit the screen fades to black before going back to the title screen.

In Densetsu no Starfy 2, the Game Over screen shows Starfy spinning around dizzy at the bottom of the sea. Choosing to continue has him rise up to the surface to continue his adventure, but choosing to quit has the background fade to black, Starfy turns to face the player shocked, he cries then pulls his bed up and goes to sleep in it.

In Densetsu no Starfy 3, the Game Over screen has a black background, and Starfy and Starly are sad while Moe looks disappointed. Continuing has Starfy and Starly dry their tears before they head back to continue their adventure but quitting has Starfy and Starly cry while Moe sighs.

In Densetsu no Starfy 4, either Starfy or Starly falls down from the sky and into the ocean while the other tries to keep them from falling to the bottom of the sea. Which player character falls down on the Game Over screen first depends on which character lost all their health points. Continuing has both Starfy and Starly rise into the sky to try again, but quitting has them sink to the bottom of the sea.

In The Legendary Starfy, the game over screen shows Starfy and Starly floating on the sea dizzy, like in Densetsu no Starfy 4 continuing has them rise into the sky to try again, but quitting has them both sink into the sea. There is a different Game Over screen for when the player is defeated by Mashtooth or Mega Mashtooth. The screen is purple and Starfy is on it collapsed. An outline of Mashtooth can be seen and it is filled in red, with his eyes shown. Dark blue 'flames' can be seen. Unique to this Game Over screen, the player can choose to try again rather than continue from the last save by selecting that option (which is written in larger text). If the player continues either from the boss battle or the last save, Starfy on the Game Over screen will stand up showing a pose like he is determined to beat Mashtooth. If the player chooses to return to the title screen, Starfy shakes a little, goes 'fii' in a sad tone, and does not get up.
