Area 1 of Old Castle (Stage 10) in Densetsu no Starfy 3

Areas (Japanese: エリア) are individual levels in The Legendary Starfy series, found within Stages. They were introduced in Densetsu no Starfy 2 as the Stages in Densetsu no Starfy are levels themselves.

Areas are available through the Area Select in Densetsu no Starfy 2 and Densetsu no Starfy 3, the City screen in Densetsu no Starfy 4 and the Map screens in The Legendary Starfy.

In Densetsu no Starfy 2 and Densetsu no Starfy 3, there are secret areas that become available as soon as the player beats the game once and extra secret Areas that become available after the player upgrades a Vehicle. In Densetsu no Starfy 4, there are no secret Areas, although the Answers Cards available after beating the game once are used to get past the Tobira Majin that block hidden parts of the Area.

In games prior to The Legendary Starfy, the player can return to the Area Select or City by holding Select+Start on the Pause Menu, provided that the player has beaten the game once. In The Legendary Starfy, the player can use the Return to Map option to return to the Map, provided that they have already beaten the Area.

In The Legendary Starfy, the Areas have actual names. The names differ for every Stage apart from the secret areas that are all called "????" or "Area Secret (number)" and the areas in the ??? Stage which are all called "Time Attack!".

In The Legendary Starfy, the player doesn't have to complete the game to access secret areas. Rather, they are be unlocked by winning Side Quests. There are three secret Areas for each Stage except Pufftop and the ??? Stage, spanning off every regular Area except the first Area.
