If Starfy or Starly performs a Star Spin on a Fwip's shield, he/she will bounce back. When a Fwip has its shield up, it is only possible to defeat it by attacking it from behind. However, instead of trying to defeat it, Starfy or Starly can back off and wait. In a few moments, the Fwip's shield will go away, and the Fwip will be still gasping for air.

In ''Densetsu no Starfy 4'', the official artwork for a Fwip is accurate to its sprite, with Fwips being represented as a red fish with teal fins. In ''The Legendary Starfy'' there is official artwork for a defeated Fwip that is orange with blue fins. This portrayal is different from its sprite in ''The Legendary Starfy'', which was unchanged from ''Densetsu no Starfy 4''.
