Fwips (Suin in Japan) are fish enemies in the Nintendo DS games. They can puff themselves up, and create a shield in front of them if Starfy or Starly is too slow to defeat it using a Star Spin. If Starfy or Starly performs a Star Spin on a Fwip's shield, he/she will bounce back. When a Fwip has its shield up, it is only possible to defeat it by attacking it from behind. However, instead of trying to defeat it, Starfy or Starly can back off and wait. In a few moments, the Fwip's shield will go away, and the Fwip will be still gasping for air.

Disputable Fwip artwork
In The Legendary Starfy there is official artwork used on the game's boxart and Starfy.com for an enemy that rather looks like a defeated Fwip, but it is orange with blue fins instead of being a red fish with teal fins. The latter color scheme is used in the official Densetsu no Starfy 4 artwork, and in the sprite for a Fwip in both Densetsu no Starfy 4 and The Legendary Starfy (as the The Legendary Starfy sprite is the same as the Densetsu no Starfy 4 one). It is therefore possible that this enemy was not intended to be a Fwip, but it seems likely that it is a Fwip given that it uses mainly the same design as the official Densetsu no Starfy 4 Fwip artwork minus the colors, and that there are no other enemies that closely resemble it in the game.

Fwips (Suin in Japan) are fish enemies that appear in the Nintendo DS games. They can puff themselves up, and create a shield in front of them if Starfy or Starly is too slow to defeat it using a Star Spin. If Starfy or Starly performs a Star Spin on a Fwip's shield, he or she will bounce back. When a Fwip has its shield up, it is only possible to defeat it by attacking it from behind. However, instead of trying to defeat it, Starfy or Starly can back off and wait. In a few moments, the Fwip's shield will go away, and the Fwip will be still gasping for air.

Artwork note

In The Legendary Starfy, artwork (from the game's boxart and Starfy.com) depicts them as a bright orange fish with blue fins instead of being a darker orange fish with teal fins as in Densetsu no Starfy 4.

The sprite for a Fwip in both Densetsu no Starfy 4 and The Legendary Starfy is orange/red with teal fins.

In the The Legendary Starfy Video Game Magazine manga

Fwips using the bright orange and blue design from The Legendary Starfy appear in the Video Game Magazine manga Defeat the Enemy! from the November 2008 issue. In it, two of the Fwips swam after Starfy, Starly and Moe, but Starfy was too scared to attack them. Starly then slapped Starfy causing him to spin and defeat the Fwips.
