This article is a summary of television or online commercials that were produced to promote the The Legendary Starfy series. Most of the commercials originate from Japan because of The Legendary Starfy being the only localized game.

Many of the commercials have special anime style scenes that were not taken from existing gameplay footage.

Additionally, Japanese tarento Becky, Saya Kazuki, Perfume, ℃-ute have been shown singing their own version of the series Title Song.The Legendary Starfy: Taiketsu! Daīru Kaizokudan commercials also have their own version of the series Title Song, but with no singer(s).

Nintendo Space World 2000 commercial

A commercial from Nintendo Space World 2000 (footage courtesy of Donald Allen). It showed footage from the game, with Pufftop Palace being shown, and Starfy carrying treasure in the palace and dropping it. Afterwards Starfy is shown dancing around the (former) game logo with a background with fishes in it. Then, more game footage is shown. Rain is falling near the Pufftop Palace, and Starfy falls in the sea showing his Done For pose while tornadoes strike Pufftop Palace.

More footage is shown from what appears to be Coral Reef, with an object blocking the flow of water. In another scene, Starfy interacts with the Mermaid. In the next scene, he interacts with Moe at what appears to be Coral Reef. In the next scene, Starfy is shown breaking blocks in what appears to be the Sunken Ship. In the next scene, Starfy battles Kaninari. In the next scene, Starfy battles Blantern and the Buranko. In the next scene, Starfy is seen jumping from a green platform. In the next scene, Starfy is moving around what appears to be Sea of Ice and gets hit by a Pingoon. In the next scene, he is moving around what appears to be Deep Sea. In the next scene, he is seen moving around what appears to be the Sunken Ship again.

The former game logo is shown again and enlarged. The expected release date is shown with it.

Starfy leaving Pufftop Palace with the jar

In this commercial, Becky's version of the series Title Song plays. Non-gameplay footage is shown where Starfy is seen walking outside of Pufftop Palace holding the jar, but trips and lands into the ocean with it. Moe picks him up from the ocean floor where there are various Wahi Wahi in the background. The scene changes to Starfy standing on the beach with Pufftop Palace in the distance. Starfy sheds a single tear from his eye.

Gameplay footage is shown of Starfy battling Kaninari, then a non-gameplay scene is shown again. Starfy 'thinks', then decides to Star Spin upwards. Gameplay footage is shown again of Starfy battling Kuragen, then moving around Coral Coast, then in a boss battle with Konk while dizzy, then Starfy using the teddy bear Kigurumi to make a Stangler close its shell.

Non-gameplay footage is shown again, where Starfy Star Spins up when underwater, becoming dizzy and frightening some Unu away.

The commercial concludes to show Starfy, Old Man Lobber, Ootaruika, a Pufftop Guard, Pao, Herman, one of the Jellato Sisters, the Mermaid, Moe, Dolfy and another character standing on the beach, with the whale behind them, then the jar falling underwater.

Starfy sleeping on the whale

Starfy is seen sleeping on the whale as it swims across the ocean. It then spouts up water that sends Starfy flying through the air. The scene changes to Starfy falling down from Pufftop Palace with the jar.

Starfy looks towards Pufftop while sitting down on the whale and turns around, with tears in his eyes. Starfy gets spouted up again and hits the screen with swirled eyes (like when he is dizzy).

Footage of Densetsu no Starfy is shown on a Game Boy Advance; of Starfy meeting the whale and doing a Star Spin to bring up Moe.

Another scene is shown with Starfy standing on the ocean floor. A "?" mark appears from him, then he gets the idea to Star Spin upwards.

Game Boy Advance Densetsu no Starfy footage is shown again; of Starfy battling Kuragen, spinning in Lobber's Cave and getting dizzy, running through Sea of Ice, jumping and gliding, and using the Magic Set.

The commercial concludes to show Starfy, Old Man Lobber, Ootaruika, a Pufftop Guard, Pao, Herman, one of the Jellato Sisters, the Mermaid, Moe, Dolfy and another character standing on the beach, with the whale behind them.

Oha Suta Becky music video

The commercial promoting Becky: Densetsu no Starfy, the tie-in CD for Densetsu no Starfy

A commercial shown on Oha Suta: The Super Kids Station, promoting Densetsu no Starfy and its tie-in CD. Becky sings her version of the series Title Song and Japanese subtitles of the lyrics appear.

In this commercial, there is an orange sky and bright red sun. Pufftop Palace is shown and Starfy is seen looking at it, shedding a single tear. The scene changes to an underwater setting with Gyotto, Wahi Wahi, Unu, Chokki, Jellysquish(?) with Becky swimming and performing a Star Spin.

Starfy then performs a Star Spin afterwards and Becky gives him a thumbs up. Becky is then seen on the beach singing the series Title Song. The scene changes to Pufftop Palace and Starfy tripping up and dropping the jar. Becky puts her hands to her face expressing regret, then Starfy falls down towards the ocean and falls in with the jar. The scene changes to Becky again, and she looks concerned.

Starfy lands on the ocean floor. Moe appears and lifts him up with his shell. The scene changes to Becky standing on the ocean floor, then to Becky walking up to Starfy while he is standing on the beach.

Starfy has a sad face and his eyebrows drop when Becky ducks down to see him.

The scene changes to the ocean floor again. Starfy is swimming in the ocean and Becky dances with Starfy. The scene changes to the beach again. Starfy stands with Becky (who is sitting down with him) on the beach but Starfy still looks sad.

The scene changes to Starfy happy with Becky on a moving cloud. They look at each other smiling. The scene changes back to the beach. Starfy is shuddering as Becky looks at him and sheds a single tear, but then looks angry as she grins at him, raising her shoulder.

Pufftop Palace is shown again, then Starfy and Becky facing it on the beach.

Densetsu no Starfy 2

15 seconds commercial

Starfy running after Mama Star, with two Puchi Ogura (#4 and #2?) following

This commercial also promotes the 20th anniversary of the Famicom with a text notice at the beginning of the commercial. Starfy is seen with Papa Star and Mama Star and is confronted by Ogura. Mama Star is kidnapped, so he rushes off to rescue her, while two Puchi Ogura (one resembles Puchi Ogura #4, the other is Puchi Ogura #2) follow. Starfy in distress tries to hold Mama Star's hand but loses her. They both become tearful.

In another scene, Starfy is seen falling from Pufftop Palace, looking determined to try his best. He falls in the water and performs a Star Spin, but gets caught up in the seaweed looking dizzy (with swirly eyes).

Saya Kazuki's version of the series Title Song starts to play.

Game Boy Advance footage is shown of Starfy in Gluglug Lagoon dizzy, then of Starfy battling Konk in Lobber's Cave.

Another non-gameplay scene is shown of Starfy performing his Shooting Star ability, then Starfy is shown using it in game. Next, gameplay footage is shown of Starfy battling Puchi Ogura #2 and the Pekin Duck Model. Next, footage of Starfy ducking is shown.

The commercial concludes with a scene showing Starfy sitting down on a tree with red leaves and purple/pink bark with the Mermaid and Moe. Standing on the ground are Torito, Chuta(?), Gaidonna, Shurikit, Old Man Lobber and Lovely.

A longer version of the 15 seconds commercial that shows the same events but in greater detail (in particular, Starfy noticing Ogura with Puchi Ogura #5, Puchi Ogura #4(?), Puchi Ogura #3, Puchi Ogura #2 and Puchi Ogura #1 and Ogura pulling out a black ball from his nose).

Savako, Jojiro, Jellato Sisters, Chuta, Papa Star and Mama Star plates with scrolls that have Yadokarita (Herman), Lovely, Mantahan, Starpy (Starly), Mermaid, Rob-jii (Old Man Lobber), Moe, Mama Star, Papa Star and Starfy written on them

A commercial that shows characters from Densetsu no Starfy 3 moving around on plates (like in a conveyor belt sushi system). Perfume's song Vitamin Drop plays in the background. The characters include Herman(?), Savako, Jojiro, The Jellato Sisters, Chuta, Papa Star with Mama Star on the same plate, Starfy, Ogura, Starly, Old Man Lobber, Moon and the Mermaid.

Additionally, there are scrolls with character names. They are, Herman, Lovely, Mantahan, Starly, Mermaid, Old Man Lobber, Hirarin, Moe, Mama Star, Papa Star and Starfy.

In the commercial, Starfy jumps up in joy. Starly also pulls off a pose but decides to jump on Starfy's plate and knock him off, forcing him to land in some wasabi. Starfy rushes off with swirly eyes and red lips.

Afterwards, gameplay footage is shown off Starly Wall Jumping, Starfy riding Pakara, Starly Crawling and Starfy performing the Shooting Star ability. The commercial concludes with Densetsu no Starfy 3 game boxes being shown on the plates, with text showing the game's release date and retail price. Moe is then shown angry looking out of a hot bowl with a lid.

Ogura shocked by (possibly) Evil

A longer version of the 15 seconds commercial with the same events. One of the differences is that characters unseen in the 15 seconds commercial are shown. They are, a shadowy character (possibly Evil in an unseen form), Lovelove, Loverin, Lovely, Ootaruika, Kanninpapa with Chibi-kannin, Taiblond, Fat Cat and Kit Fish. Starfy is also seen attacking Gachatakkoru after the Shooting Star scene from the 15 seconds commercial.

Evil, in a form not used in the final game with his hands on Pufftop Palace.

A 56 second long commercial for Densetsu no Starfy 3 was once hosted on the official Densetsu no Starfy 3, and is still available through the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. The commercial introduces Starfy's younger sister Starly and shows Evil with his hands on Pufftop Palace alongside Ogura. Evil is interestingly in a form that is not used in the final game.

Various gameplay footage is shown, including Starly breaking blocks, Starly using the Wall Jump and Crawl abilities, Starfy riding Pakara, footage of the minigames Pufftop Dance Battle, Irachiki Dash!!, Starfy breaking blocks underwater, Starfy being pushed by Kachiwari-sama, Starfy battling Enbiraru, Starfy avoiding a knife in Misty Town and Starfy being pushed by geysers.

Oha Suta Perfume music video

A 55 second long music video shown on Oha Suta, where Starfy and Starly dance with Perfume members, and they sing their own version of the series Title Song. Various other characters cameo in this commercial, including Lovely, Fat Cat, Moe, Shurikit(?), Mermaid, one of the Jellato Sisters, Kit Fish, Gaidonna, Torito, Chuta, Old Man Lobber and Herman.

Scenes outside of Starfy and Starly dancing include Starfy running forward with other characters, Starfy swimming with other characters, Starfy dancing near characters that debuted in Densetsu no Starfy: Dolfy, The Whale, an Ukizzu, Tatsunomama, Herman, Moe, a Jellato Sister, Ruby, Pao, Ootaruika, Old Man Lobber and a Pufftop Guard. In another scene, Lovely also kisses Starfy. In another, Starfy and Starly swim together. In another, Starfy encounters a big fish that he has to Duck under.

A commercial that shows the town surrounding the Amiy Castle and the residents there. The commercial zooms into the Amiy Castle and shows Degil grabbing the Mon Amour Stone with claws. Then a storm occurs and fires. The aforementioned residents of the Amiy Kingdom run away in distress. Mattel is hiding somewhere (possibly in the Amiy Castle) while the place becomes to fall apart. She gets tears in her eyes and calls to Starfy to help.

Starfy was sleeping in the Pufftop Palace with Moe and a football, but after the distress call he woke up in an angry state, eager to go to the neighboring Amiy Kingdom, though he ends up landing in on a table holding bonsai plants belonging to Old Man Lobber, ruining the plants and destroying the table.

Gameplay footage is shown of Starfy using the Magical Coin, Starly performing a Low Spin and Starfy using the pig Kigurumi to throw food.

Non-gameplay footage is shown again, of Starfy using the Powerful Spin; then the commercial shows that this ability looks like in game.

At the end of the commerical, Starfy, Starly, Lovely, Herman, Shurikit, the Mermaid, Mattel, Coral, Ruby, Old Man Lobber and Moe are seen sitting down with the Amiiyoshino on a multi-colored 'carpet'. They seem to be having a picnic.

This commercial was available officially online. A commercial showing Starfy on a beach, facing a silhouette of Degil with the Mon Amour Stone in her hand. Starfy gets angry emitting energy, surprising Starly. Mattel is shown, telling Starfy to do his best. This causes Starfy to calm down and turn around, infatuated.

Lovely talks to Moe, causing him to blush and get love hearts in his eyes. Starly uses a loud-speaker of some sort to make Starfy and Moe get moving.

Gameplay footage is shown of Starfy battling Choking. Then non-gameplay footage of Starfy using the Powerful Spin is shown and gameplay footage of this ability is shown after it. Then, gameplay footage of Starfy using the Pig Kigurumi to pull a face is shown. Then gameplay footage of Starly doing a Low Spin is shown.

Non-gameplay footage of Starfy using the Magical Coin is shown only for it to land on the wrong side. Starly and Moe are shown to be shocked. Footage of the Magical Coin being used in game is shown after this.

Like in the commercial showing Amiy Castle, the commercial concludes with Starfy, Starly and the same friends sitting down with Amiiyoshino, seemingly having a picnic.

98 seconds ℃-ute commercial

This commercial was available officially online. It is a music video with ℃-ute's version of the series Title Song.

E3 2009 trailer

The E9 2009 trailer is about 1 minute and 33 seconds long and introduces the ESRB rating first: Everyone 6+. The tune Opening 1 plays and the game's logo is introduced. The commercial shows a full blue background with a bubble that says "Meet a Mysterious New Friend" in it.

Gameplay footage is shown from the beginning of the game from when Bunston crashes into Pufftop Palace and wakes Starfy up. Then the full blue background appears again, with bubbles "Spin through Enemies as you" "Swim, Leap and Glide to Adventure!"

Gameplay footage is shown again, of Starfy attacking Unu in Gluglug Lagoon, getting pushed up by geysers in Hotcha Springs, breaking cracks in the wall in Gluglug Lagoon to get a treasure chest, rescuing the Coddies from a Goblup, riding an ice block in Chillydip Cove and Starfy being stuck in a snowball and knocking down Mini Pings.

The full blue background is shown again, with the bubble "Change into Powerful Forms!".

Then, gameplay footage is shown of the cutscene where Starfy merges with Bunston to become Monstar. Gameplay footage is shown again, of Starfy attacking Big Squiddy and swimming through Chillydip Cove as Starpedo,

The full blue background is shown again, with the bubble "Team Up over Local Wireless", and gameplay of Starfy and Starly teaming up through Team Play is shown, through areas and in the Big Squiddy boss battle.

The trailer concludes by showing the game logo and with a short advertisement for the Nintendo DSi ("what will you and i do?").

Toys "R" Us also released a similar version of the trailer with Gluglug Lagoon music playing instead of the Opening 1 music.

E3 2009 trailer

"Falling Star" commercial (1)

In this 30 second North American commercial that also appeared on Starfy.com, there is a boy and his grandpa on a boat called the "Falling Star" in the middle of the ocean. The boy asks his grandpa if there are any fish in the ocean, and his grandpa replies that he has seen "crazier things than fish" in the ocean. The boy asks "like what?" and his grandpa tells him about a giant squid monster with tentacles "as long as a train" (Big Squiddy).

The boy looks down into the ocean, until his grandpa tells him that there is no need to worry because "a legend" is on their side. The boy, impressed asks "a legend?!" and he looks into the ocean to see Starfy, looking at him in awe.

The commercial concludes by showing the commercial, rating and release date.

A 30 second North American commercial that also appeared on Starfy.com, featuring the boat in the middle of the ocean called the "Falling Star" as in the commercial above. A man is sleeping on the boat (possibly a younger version of the man from the previous commercial) with a fishing rod, and all of a sudden Starfy falls from the sky into the ocean. This causes the man to wake up. In the ocean, Starfy spots Big Squiddy and swims swiftly towards him to attack it, but he gets sent away.

Big Squiddy targets the boat with his tentacles, frightening the man. He looks into the distance to see Starfy as Monstar, who then breathes fire. Gameplay footage from a blue Nintendo DSi is then shown of Starfy transforming into Monstar in game thanks to Bunston's thought bubble. Gameplay footage is then shown of Starfy attacking Big Squiddy.

Afterwards, the game's box is shown underwater above the ocean floor with text that the game and system are sold separately, and Starfy swims out of the water using his Turbo Swim ability, promoted as "one fierce friend".

Nicktropolis promotion

The discontinued 2007-2010 online game Nicktropolis featured an advertisement for The Legendary Starfy in a special room themed around the game. It showed a floating version of Starfy and Moe in a bubble. There was an option to make the commercial full screen.

Non-gameplay footage is shown of Starfy, Moe, Old Man Lobber, the Mermaid, Herman and Bunston on the ocean floor. Bunston has a Starpedo thought bubble, so Starfy touches it to become Starpedo, surprising everyone.

They are shown again in a forest and this time Bunston has a Monstar thought bubble. Starfy touches it to become Monstar, making everyone except Moe laugh, who looks astonished. Starfy as Bunston then sets Moe on fire.

An arrangement of the series Title Song starts to play. Gameplay footage is shown with Starfy as Monstar fighting Big Squiddy. Next, gameplay footage is shown of Starfy as Starpedo moving through rings in Chillydip Cove. Next, gameplay footage is shown of Starfy as Roostar in Skydye Heights using the "Bugawk!" attack to attack enemies. Next, gameplay footage is shown of Starfy as Starfright in S.S. Logwater using "Vanish" to move through spikes.

Next, gameplay footage is shown of Starfy attacking a Goblup to save Herman's Coddies. Next, gameplay footage is shown of Starfy feeding a Fluffy Unu clouds. Next, gameplay footage is shown of Starfy battling Kittana in a Mine-Car battle. Next, gameplay footage is shown of Starfy moving through S.S. Logwater and getting swallowed by a Mega Snark.

Next, gameplay footage is shown of the Dumpling Master minigame. Then, some of the Stuff are shown, which include: Starfy wearing the High-Class Attire with the Distinguished Wig, Starly wearing the Doctor's Coat with the Doctor's Accessory, Starfy wearing the Back-to-School Clothes and Student Cap and Starly wearing the Kitty Costume and Meow Helmet.

Next, Starfy is shown moving across a rainbow in Skydye Heights.

Concluding the commercial is Starfy running around playfully as Roostar, hitting Moe. Huffinfluff, Starly, Herman, Old Man Lobber and the Mermaid are also seen in the background walking or running in a line.

After this commercial there may be a "Premium DS Lite" promotion advertising gray, brown and black Nintendo DS Lites, but it is not clear if it always appeared.

Then gameplay footage of Starfy moving around a big boulder to block an upside down waterfall.

Afterwards, the commercial shows an in-game scene from the Don't Mess with Starly Story cartoon (of Starly holding a Pearl like object telling Starfy and Moe of bad news). Then gameplay footage of Moe asking Starfy if he wants to call Starfy for Team Play mode.

The commercial then shows two Nintendo DSes (a white and pink one) and shows footage of Starfy and Starly helping each other in Team Play mode to beat the Hot-Spring Snapper, Big Squiddy and King Ping. It concludes by showing the game logo and release date.

The commercial begins with non-gameplay footage where Starfy is seen skating playfully in Chillydip Cove, with Moe and Pingoons. Starfy and Moe then bump into each other. Moe says something in anger or frustration and Starfy becomes disappointed. Then, a big snowball appears and Starfy and Moe are too slow to run away, and Starfy rolls around stuck in the snowball.

Gameplay footage is shown of Starfy rolling around in a snowball. Then, gameplay footage is shown of Starfy moving on an ice block in Chillydip Cove. Then, gameplay footage is shown of Huffinfluff blowing wind. Then, gameplay footage is shown of Starfy in the air in Skydye Heights. Then, gameplay footage is shown of Starfy using the Shooting Star ability to break boxes in S.S. Logwater. Then, gameplay footage is shown of Starfy attacking a giant Jellysquish in Skydye Heights. Then, gameplay footage is shown of Starfy using a glowing mushroom to get through Sogwood Forest. Then, gameplay footage is shown of Starfy in the middle of Hotcha Spring's "Dash Through the Hot Spring" Side Quest. Then, gameplay footage is shown of the Hot-Spring Snapper making a hole in the floor, with Starfy and Moe falling through it.

Then, gameplay footage is shown of the Coin Slinger minigame. Then, gameplay scenes of Starfy and Starly with some of the Stuff are shown, including Starfy with Doctor's Coat and Doctor's Accessory, Starly with the Duck Mask and Rubber-Ducky Ring and Starfy with the Viking Armor and Viking Flair.

The commercial concludes with showing Starfy using a Houdai to get to a treasure chest. Then the game's logo, release date and retail price are shown.
