Shinigami is an enemy that cannot be defeated and only appears in the background as a 3D model in Densetsu no Starfy 4. It only appears in one level of Dejiru's Castle. Shinigami will gradually get closer to the player character and deplete half of the player's hit points as soon as it gets close enough. The only way to repel it back is by touching the chandelier in the level and the blinding light will back it away towards the back of the room. 2D sprites of the Shinigami will appear in the Picture Book.

Trivia

• If the player has 1 hp and Shinigami strikes the player, the player won't take any damage, since 1 divided by 2 is equal to 0.5 and the game automatically rounds it up to 1 leading to a total of 0 damage done to the player. Thus, it is impossible for Shinigami to kill the player, since 0.5 will be rounded up to 1 every time leading to the damage animation and effect to not activate at all.
• Shinigami is also the strongest and weakest enemy in the game dealing a total of 125 hp if the player's hp is full and fully upgraded (which is the highest any enemy and boss can deal to the player) to as low as 0, which is lower than some of the enemies can do in the first couple stages if the player's hp is at 1. The only other enemy that can deal as much and less damage is Dejiru's swallow attack in her first form.

Shinigami's 3D sprite
