Seahorse Child Catch

Seahorse Child Catch (Japanese: タツノコキャッチ, Tatsunoko Catch) is a minigame in Densetsu no Starfy. Tatsunomama lets the player play it in Coral Reef.

Meeting Tatsunomama after beating the game and clearing the Minigame on hard will take Starfy to a room with moving spikes and a Kagibanrei; a Rare Enemy that will help complete the Picture Book when beaten.

How to play

Use the control pad to move Moe left or right. Press and hold the B button while moving to move faster, and press the A button to make Moe tilt upwards, such as to cover more space. The goal of the minigame is to catch Tatsunomama's children. A certain amount of points are granted when catching them. If the required number of points are reached the player wins, but if even one sea horse hits the spikes then the player loses.

In the minigame they are three types of Tatsunomama's children:

  • The blue ones who earn you 1 point.
  • The green ones who earn you 2 points and move a little faster.
  • The extremely quick red ones that earn you 3 points.

Also, the layout of the minigame varies from each difficulty level. On easy, blocks are laid out over the screen, making Tatsunomama's children change direction often by bouncing of these, and Moe is required to catch 20 of them. On medium dificulty, there will be a combination of blocks and moving platformrs, which basically act as longer moving blocks, and Moe will now have to catch 30 seahorse children. And finally, on hard difficulty, Moe has to grab 40 of the seahorses, and in contrast to easy and medium difficulty, spikes will now cover the entire bottom of the screen, not just a section.
