The Toys menu from The Legendary Starfy

The Toys feature (known as Picture Book in Japan and Trading Card in Densetsu no Starfy 3) shows most of the characters, enemies, and bosses in the games as they are met or defeated. In The Legendary Starfy, they have to be bought with Pearls. It is found as an option on the List in Densetsu no Starfy, as an option in Moe's House in Densetsu no Starfy 2, Densetsu no Starfy 3 and Densetsu no Starfy 4 and in Moe's Case in The Legendary Starfy.

Densetsu no Starfy

See also: Densetsu no Starfy/Picture Book for Picture Book listings.

Friendly characters are added when the player meets them. Enemies and bosses are added when the player defeats them, or encounters them for enemies that cannot be defeated. Characters are listed by Stage.

There is a "Perfect!" (Japanese: パーフェクト!) screen unique to this game that appears every time the player chooses to load the Picture Book after it is complete. The Perfect! screen shows Starfy and Moe jumping up and down, Old Man Lobber, and fish coming out of the Picture Book. Pressing the A or Start button a few seconds after it appears allows the player to continue to view the Picture Book.

Buying toys

After beating Mega Mashtooth for the first time, Toys becomes available as an option in Moe's Case. Selecting it brings the player to a menu with a large capsule machine and the options 'Buy a Toy' and 'Toy Collection'.

Through the 'Buy a Toy' option, the player can buy a random Toy for 5 Pearls. After turning the handle, one of three types of Toy containers will come out of the machine (see below). The player can tap the capsule on the touch screen to flip it a number of times.

After a few moments the container will open and reveal a Toy. If the Toy is not a duplicate an entry for the Toy will be added to the Toy Collection. If the Toy is a duplicate, the Pearls will be spent, but nothing else will happen because each Toy can only have one entry in the Toy Collection.

Through the 'Toy Collection' option, the player can view the character and enemy descriptions for Toys they purchased via the 'Buy a Toy' option. Like in Densetsu no Starfy 4, characters and enemies are listed by Stage but there is a separate section for Friends.

Toy containers

There are three types of toy containers. They are all balls that have one white side, but the other side varies what is inside.

  • Blue: Normal enemy
  • Yellow with orange stars: Friend
  • Gray with a black, devilish smile: Boss

The toy containers in the machine are one of these three assortments:

  • One boss container, two friend containers and five normal enemies
  • Eight boss containers
  • Eight friend containers

Toy categories

The toys fall under eleven categories:
