This article lists unused content that can be found in Densetsu no Starfy 3.

Alternate Undersea Ruins bubble

The bubble

There appears to be an unused variation of the bubbles used to transform Wario into Bubble Wario in Undersea Ruins. This variation has white circles on the bubble as reflection marks unlike the used empty bubble that has curved lines as reflection marks instead. [1]

Development text

Densetsu no Starfy 3 has numerous strings of development text that can be viewed from the ROM in ANSI encoding.

Compile dates

There are nine "OptRls" messages (possibly meaning "Optimal Release") in the ROM that appear to be dates from when the game was compiled. Seven of them are unique. Note the information is different between the v1.0 and v1.1 release.

Similar messages appear in Densetsu no Starfy 2 and Shrek: Hassle at the Castle (which is believed to have been developed by TOSE). [2][3][4]

The messages are as follows:

File Select unused content

Densetsu no Starfy 3 has some unused content that is stored with the File Select tiles. All the content here is shared with Densetsu no Starfy 2, although the tiles are designed differently between the versions.

14 Stage numbers

11-14

Graphics exist on the Densetsu no Starfy 3 File Select screen for numbers up to 14, even though there are only ten stages. Note that this data is also present in Densetsu no Starfy 2.

Test Stage

Main article: Test Stage (Densetsu no Starfy 3)
This article or section is incomplete.
You can add to it by clicking the edit button at the top of the article.
Reason given: More detail is wanted. For the debug conversations, more information is available on The Cutting Room Floor.

Like Densetsu no Starfy 4 and The Legendary Starfy, Densetsu no Starfy 3 has a test stage. It contains the unused debug conversations below, and some of the maps contain enemies.

Debug conversations

The game includes various debug conversations, used for testing colors (Color Test), Starfy's expressions (Animation Test), printing text and testing the cutscene with Ogura rushing for Evil. (Conversation Test)

Other unused conversations

2-3 post-game

Moe's siblings appear to have the following conversation coded. This conversation appears at offset 5B2D71 (v1.0) or 5B2E2D (Rev 1). Based on the placement of this text, this is meant for a conversation in the post-game version of Stage 2-3. They do not appear there, however, due to certain story flags not being set causing the objects corresponding to Moe's siblings to not appear.

To make Moe's siblings appear, change the byte at 0200003C in RAM from 00 to 0x20, then switch rooms in the post-game version of Stage 2-3. Moe's siblings will appear in the same place as they did in the story version of Stage 2-3 when Starfy rescued them.

Moe's siblings mention Ruby's older sister (ハデヒラリのねえちゃん), but Ruby is not known to have other family members, and this is the only conversation that implies her having a sister.

Unused Moe's House option

Memories of the Trip

There is an unused option in Moe's House called "Memories of the Trip" (Japanese: たびの思い出) that can viewed by changing the memory address 02004498h to 04 before entering Moe's House. Like "Mom's Photo" and the "Ruby Poster" it is not selectable. It has the description "..うっ...なんでもねえよ!目にゴミがはいっただけだ" but this description is shared with invalid options as well. The speech bubble points to the bottom-right corner of the room. Its value proceeds 03 (Sea Jams), suggesting that it is the next option from the Sea Jams clockwise.

Unused Starfy sprite

A revamped version of the unused Starfy sprite from Densetsu no Starfy appears in the game.[5]
