Revision as of 14:00, 17 March 2013

This is a subsection of Densetsu no Starfy 4/Unused content which covers unused model files inside the game. Many of the model files are shared with Japanese versions of Super Princess Peach. These files will be described in a separate section.

Exclusive to Densetsu no Starfy 4

This section covers unused model files, animations and textures that appear only in Densetsu no Starfy 4.

Galaga graphics

Densetsu no Starfy 4 contains a number of graphics associated with Galaga. The reason for this is unknown, though it may be of note that Yasuhiro Minamimoto; producer of Densetsu no Starfy 2, Densetsu no Starfy 3, Densetsu no Starfy 4, The Legendary Starfy and director of Densetsu no Starfy worked on Namco Museum Battle Collection for the PSP. Namco Museum Battle Collection contains a game called 'Galaga Arrangement'. It also contains the original Galaga and Galaxian.

Ga 16plt
'Ga 16plt'

'Ga 16plt' is a 3D model file of a fly enemy from Galaga.

Ga 256plt, Galaga and Gb01 t01
'Ga 256plt'

'Ga 256plt' appears to be a spritesheet of 106 sprites of enemies and ships from Galaga. 'Galaga' and 'Gb01 t01' appears to be the same file as 'Ga 256plt' but with its transparency removed and replaced with a blue background.

Gb32 t01
'Gb 32 t01'

'Gb32 t01' appears to be a spritesheet of an enemy insect's body parts from Galaga.

Yellow Ninja

Viewing the front of 'Ninzya low'

'Ninzya low' is a 3D model file for a character wearing a yellow tunic who appears to be a ninja. 'Ninzya low' appears similar to the 'Ninzya', 'Ninzya2', 'Ninzya5' files shared between Densetsu no Starfy 4 and the Japanese version of Super Princess Peach which all seem to represent different colored ninjas. 'Ninzya low' does not appear as a file in Super Princess Peach.

'Ninzya low' has two features not shared with 'Ninzya', 'Ninzya2' and 'Ninzya5'. Ninzya low's associated texture file gives it a black square above its mouth like a 'mustache'. The kanji '茶' ("cha"), appears on its forehead. The '1skin' text shared with Ninzya and Ninzya2 doesn't appear on 'Ninzya low'. Two small black dots appear at each side of Ninzya low's forehead.

For more information about 'Ninzya', 'Ninzya2' and 'Ninzya5', see the section here.

Ninzya low's textures

Shared with Super Princess Peach

This section covers unused model files, animations and textures which are shared between Densetsu no Starfy 4 and Super Princess Peach.

Objects

Airplane
The dimensions of the airplane named 'Airforce'

'Airforce' is a 3D Model resembling a generic airplane. Defining this model is a single 3D Model file titled airforce.nsbmd. As there is no 3D Texture File under the same name, it's unclear whether this object was meant to be textured.

A copy of this model exists directly after airforce.nsbmd under the filename airforce2.nsbmd.

Box
A single plane of the box

'Box' is a 3D model for a simple cuboid. As there is no 3D Texture File under the same name, it's unclear whether this object was meant to be textured.

Cube

'Cube n t' is a 3D model for a different cube. There is a 3D Texture file of the same name which patterns the edges of the box with red, green, blue and yellow strips. Each plane of the box is patterned with a large letter 'F'. The file size of the 'Cube n t' model is larger in Densetsu no Starfy 4 (2.84 kB) than in Super Princess Peach (696 bytes), although there are seemingly no visible differences in their appearances.

Desk Chair
The desk chair model ('isu') viewed from an angle

'Isu' is a 3D model that resembles an armless desk chair. This model is associated with a texture file of the same name that colors the desk chair blue and black. The file size of the 'Isu' model is larger in Densetsu no Starfy 4 (9.59 kB) than in Super Princess Peach (26.05 kB), although there are seemingly no visible differences in their appearances.

Human
The dimensions of 'human run'

'Human run' is a 3D Model resembling a generic, adult male human being. The figure is standing straight with his arms stretched out.

Defining this model is a single 3D Model file titled human run.nsbmd. As there is no 3D Texture File under the same name, it's unclear whether this object was meant to be textured. Although the model is named 'Human run', there is no NSBCA file under the same name to indicate that the model was meant to be animated.

A similar model exists directly after human.nsbmd under the filename 'human run t.nsbmd'. 'Human run t' is 32.93 kB and 'Human' is 28.07 kB but there are seemingly no visible differences in their appearance. These file sizes, respectively, are the same in Super Princess Peach.

Mallet and Disc

The texture file used for the mallet and the disc

Two models files ("Parts00" and "Parts01") are shared between Super Princess Peach and Densetsu no Starfy 4. The files resemble a red-tipped mallet and a silver, cylindrical disc respectively.

It may be worth stressing that the texture file for "parts00" contains the textures used for the disc ("parts01"), which may imply that both files were originally intended for a similar purpose. It seems that the reflection of the mallet can be seen on both sides of the disc.

Mallet
The red-tipped mallet ('parts00')

The mallet ('parts00') has a red head and a yellow handle. The centre of the handle's head is hollow, unlike a hatchet. The file sizes of the models differ between Super Princess Peach (3.39 kB) and Densetsu no Starfy 4 (35.51 kB).

Disc

The front side of the silver disc ('parts01') is textured with hiragana spelling "しのじ" and two dots resembling eyes. On the back of the disc is the text '3-2' which can be seen above some kanji. The file sizes of the models differ between Super Princess Peach (1.13 kB) and Densetsu no Starfy 4 (35.51 kB).

Ninjas (Green, Purple, Black)

The purple ninja's texture file ("Ninzya2")

Three model files ("ninzya", "ninzya2" and "ninzya5") are found in Densetsu no Starfy 4 and the Japanese version of Super Princess Peach resembling ninja characters.

These models are seemingly copies, because each ninja appears to share the same dimensions. Each ninja is of the same size, has a large smile, arms spread out, pink cheeks, red lips, a belt, a small nose, two small eyes and wears a different colored tunic. In Super Princess Peach, all models have the same file size (47.75 kB), although in Densetsu no Starfy 4, "ninzya" and "ninzya5" share the same file size of 175.88 kB, while the model for 'Ninzya2' is 79.88 kB.

Each ninja is associated with a different texture file with the same filename as the model. All of the texture files give the ninjas shared attributes, including similar eyes, a small swirl at the bottom of the face and a weapon attached to the back.

Exclusively to Densetsu no Starfy 4, model and textures files for an additional golden Ninja was added in to the G3D directory with the filename "ninzya_low".

Green Ninja

"Ninzya" is given a green tunic and "1skin" text on its forehead.

Purple Ninja

"Ninzya2" is given a purple tunic and "1skin" text on its forehead which is shared with "Ninzya".

Black Ninja

"Ninzya5" is given a black tunic and has a brighter skin color than "Ninzya" and "Ninzya2". The "1skin" text found on Ninzya and Ninzya2 is missing from Ninzya5's texture file, and two black circles appear in place.

Related to The Legendary Starfy series

Files related to The Legendary Starfy series appear in the Japanese version of Super Princess Peach. They were probably kept as a form of concept art. Most of the files remain inside the final version of Densetsu no Starfy 4 but with different file sizes.

Konk
'Bonebone' (Konk) viewed with its associated texture file

'Bonebone' is a 3D Model resembling Konk (ボンボーン) which is seemingly unused. In the final game, 2D cells are normally used to define characters. The texture file is lacking Konk's upgraded shell from the Densetsu no Starfy 4 boss battle.

Although 'Bonebone' is found in Super Princess Peach and appears to be seemingly identical, the file sizes for the model files are different. The file size of Bonebone.nsbmd in Densetsu no Starfy 4 is 13.73kB, and the file size in Super Princess Peach 's is 10.04kB.

'Bonebone' appears as an object within an unused panorama named 'stage02'. 'stage02' appears both in Densetsu no Starfy 4 and the Japanese version of Super Princess Peach. For more information, see here.

Panoramas

Various model files resembling panoramic views are shared between Super Princess Peach and Densetsu no Starfy 4.

Field

Described below are six models which all depict a panoramic view of a grassland surrounded by a lake, rocky mountains and floating platforms. The landscapes are surrounded by a plain blue sky. All models appear to represent the same environment, but certain model files are less detailed than others.

Thumbnail of 'Bg obj 03'

bg obj 03:

A 3D Starfy is placed on top of one of three hills. There are five hills, but the other two are bordered off by a long white fence. Starfy is surrounded by three Unu (ウーオ, Uo). One Unu is facing Starfy, and the other two Unu are placed either side of Starfy. Behind Starfy is the fence. Another Unu can be seen floating on top of the hill closest to the fence.

Past the fence is a long footpath that appears to lead inside the entrance of a cave. Behind the cave is an exit. A fifth Unu can be seen on the footpath directly behind the fence. Surrounding the cave is a forest that spans as far as the lake. In the air are six brown floating platforms covered with grass. A small patch of grass can be seen at the bottom of the platforms. A sixth Unu is in the air, next to one of the trees.

At the opposite end of the footpath is a lake in which four Unu are swimming. One of the Unu can be observed at the surface of the water, and the other three Unu are found in a group underneath the water. The three Unu are placed between two boulders.

In front of Starfy is a footpath that appears to lead into another cave. The footpath is surrounded by some tall patches of grass on its east side. The orientation of the grass isn't entirely straight - as if the grass was blown on its edge by wind. Near the entrance to the cave is a small square-shaped element that appears to be textured like the platforms. An Unu is floating in front of the entrance, another Unu appears to be sitting behind some tall grass, and a third Unu can be floating inside a puddle of water.

Seven puddles of water span the area. Two can be seen near the entrance to the cave in front of Starfy. One can be seen behind Starfy just in front of the fence. Past the fence are three puddles, behind the floating platforms and near the entrance to the other cave. A seventh puddle can be seen when following the other side of the footpath that leads to this cave.

bbb:

Thumbnail of 'bbb'

Starfy and the Unu that appear in 'bg obj 03' do not appear in 'bbb'. The 'soil' for the floating platforms from 'bg obj 03' appears to be untextured, and there is no visible patch of grass at the bottom of the platforms. There is no element separating the grass on the platforms between the soil. There is no tall grass at the east of the footpath near the west-most cave. The square-shaped element that appeared in 'bg obj 03' is plainer in 'bbb'.

ccc:

Starfy and the Unu that appear in 'bg obj 03' also appear in 'ccc'. The field is less detailed than in 'bg obj 03'. A single floating platform can be seen (picture, bottom) that appears with a detail similar to the platforms in 'bbb', but the rest of the platforms appear to be untextured. Patches of grass near the west-most cave are visible. Unlike in 'bg obj 03', all of the patches of grass in 'ccc' are facing vertically upwards. Some of the patches of grass in 'ccc' appear to be floating in the air.

Thumbnail of 'ccc'

ddd:

'ddd' appears to shares most of the attributes of 'ccc'. When viewed under ConsoleTool, 'ddd' and 'ccc' differ in the way that there only appears to be one Unu in front of Starfy.

Starfy facing a single Unu

Some of the Pearls

eee:

'eee' has floating platforms that are detailed similar to those seen in 'bg obj 03'. The bottom platform appears like it does in 'bg obj 03', however the other five platforms appear to be hollow where the top patch of grass appears in 'bg obj 03'. Similarly to 'ddd', there only appears to be one Unu in front of Starfy. For reasons unclear, there appears to be an incomplete footpath behind Starfy, but before the fence.

A distinct feature of 'eee' is the way that a number of big Pearls span the landscape. Two big Pearls appear in front of the fence, another two appear on the left-most hill behind Starfy, three appear between the third/fourth platforms, three appear below the sixth platform and six form a vertical line from inside the lake.

Unlike in 'bg obj 03', all of the patches of grass in 'eee' are facing vertically upwards. Some of the patches of grass in 'eee' appear to be floating in the air.

Stafy fieldtest:

Thumbnail of 'Stafy field test'

Stafy fieldtest does not feature Starfy, Unu, puddles or big Pearls. The dimensions of the map seem to be inaccurate. Rocks that surrounded the west and east-most cave entrances appear, but the entrance for the west-most cave is hidden behind the blue background. The footpaths associated with the appear considerably wider.

A forest can be seen in the foreground, but the trees appear to be unusually tall. There is a tall white fence near the floating platforms which curves into the forest. When viewing the other models, there is a shorter white fence that spans the cave and the lake instead.

There are floating platforms similar to those in 'bg obj 03'. The patches of grass appear to settle on rocks instead of soil. Near the west-most cave is wavy grass. A small sign can be seen with graphics resembling the help signs from the Game Boy Advance games.

The wavy grass and sign
Seascape

Described below are three models with the filenames 'stage01', 'stage02' and 'stage03', respectively. Each one appears to be a panoramic view of a seascape set under a background of a cloudy, blue sky.

Thumbnail of 'stage01'

stage01: Two large objects appear in front of the background. The objects seem to be untextured, and it may be not be clear what they represent from their shapes.

In Super Princess Peach, the file size of 'stage01.nsbmd' is 14.75 kB, and in Densetsu no Starfy 4 the file size is 52.94 kB, however both files appear to share the same basic attributes.

Thumbnail of 'stage02', including the 'fish' shaped island
Thumbnail of 'stage02', viewing the east-most Island

stage02: At the west-most side of the seascape is a green island shaped like a fish and textured with rocks. At the east-most side of the seascape is another island of a different shape.

Three other platforms surround the two islands from behind and are placed somewhere in between the two islands. The left-most platform is floating and is not attached to the bottom of the sea. The middle platform protrudes to the bottom of the ground like the west-most and east-most islands. The third platform is a small patch of grass which is floating in the in the middle of the air.

Four white objects resembling pebbles can be seen at the bottom of the sea and are textured in a similar style to the rocks. The ocean floor itself appears to be untextured.

High in the air near the east-most side of the seascape is 'Bonebone'; a 3D model of Konk that is seemingly unused in ordinary gameplay. For more information about 'Bonebone', see here.

In Super Princess Peach, the file size of 'stage02.nsbmd' is 24.64 kB, and in Densetsu no Starfy 4 the file size is 88.38 kB, however both files appear to share the same basic attributes.

'Bonebone' (Konk) in the middle of the air

stage03: A fish shaped island that is similar to the island in 'stage02' can be seen. Compared to fish shaped island in 'stage02', the dimensions appear to be skewed towards the right. Four patches of grass appear on the island. Two of the patches of grass are only partially visible because most of the object is hidden beneath the ground.

Thumbnail of 'Stage03'

The dimensions of the east-most island are different compared to the island in 'stage02'. Where a long, horizontal strip of land can be seen in 'stage02', the island curves into its west-most edge in 'stage03'. Seen on the east-most island are four patches of grass which are all visible from the ground.

Three platforms appear in between the two islands. The left-most platform floats in the middle of the air and is shaped like an upside-down cone. This is unlike the platform in 'stage02', which appears more like a pencil that descends into the sea. The middle platform appears much as it does in 'stage02'. The right-most platform appears like a shorter version of the left-most platform. In between the middle and right-most platforms are objects depicting two big Pearls.

The east-most island and surrounding platforms from 'stage03'

The 'Bonebone' object seen in 'stage02' cannot be seen in 'stage03'.

Three big Pearls appear in a vertical line beneath the sea. There is a sea-floor resembling sand, where three additional pearls appear nearby and form a horizontal line. Green and pink seaweed can be found at the bottom of the sea. The green seaweed can be seen floating on top of pebbles, and pink seaweed can be seen directly from the sea-floor.

A view from beneath the sea in 'stage03'

In Super Princess Peach, the file size of 'stage03.nsbmd' is 7.78 kB, and in Densetsu no Starfy 4 the file size is 71.80 kB, however both files appear to share the same basic attributes.

Starfish-shaped characters

Starfy and similar starfish-shaped characters appear in a number of unused model files.

Animations

There are a number of models with animation files shared between Super Princess Peach and Densetsu no Starfy 4 based on models of Starfy that appear similar to those used in the panoramas 'bg obj 03', 'ccc', 'ddd', and 'eee'. They are listed below.

  • Sta aruki: The model file is 6.99 kB in Super Princess Peach and 7.02 kB in Densetsu no Starfy 4, and the animation files are 2.11 kB and 2.20 kB, respectively. 歩き, "Aruki" is a word which means walking in Japanese, which might suggest the files are meant to represent Starfy walking.
  • Sta spin: The model file is 7.00 kB in Super Princess Peach and 7.02 kB in Densetsu no Starfy 4, and the animation files are 3.85 kB and 5.77 kB, respectively. The name might suggest the files are meant to represent Starfy performing a Star Spin (スピンアタック, Spin Attack).
  • Sta suisui: The model files are the same size (6.96 kB) between Super Princess Peach and Densetsu no Starfy 4, but the file sizes of the animation files are different. In Super Princess Peach, 'sta suisui.nsbca' is 1356 bytes and in Densetsu no Starfy 4, 'sta suisui.nsbca' is 1408 bytes. スイスイ, "Suisui" is a Japanese sound effect that means swimming[1], which might suggest the files are meant to represent Starfy swimming.
  • Sta taiki: The model files are the same size (9.04 kB) between Super Princess Peach and Densetsu no Starfy 4, but the file sizes of the animation files are different. In Super Princess Peach, 'sta taiki.nsbca' is 1844 bytes and in Densetsu no Starfy 4, 'sta taiki.nsbca' is 2044 bytes.

GBA artwork
Sta_bill model

'Sta bill' is a flat object depicting Starfy's artwork from Densetsu no Starfy, Densetsu no Starfy 2 and Densetsu no Starfy 3. Its filename is 'Sta y bill' in Super Princess Peach, but it appears to have been renamed to 'Sta bill' in Densetsu no Starfy 4. This artwork of Starfy is seen in an unused landscape called 'bg billboard03' which doesn't appear in Super Princess Peach.

The texture file for 'Sta bill' has a different bank called 'sta_01'. When 'Sta bill' is assigned to the palette for 'sta_01_pl' and is using the 'sta_01' bank, a different graphic of Starfy can be seen. It depicts the same Game Boy Advance artwork, but shows Starfy with his left eye shut, winking.

Alternative texture
Stafy 16
Stafy 16's colors
Stafy 16 model

'Stafy 16' appears to be a 3D model of Starfy, but uses a texture file which gives it green colors and red eyes.

'Stapy'
Stapy's colors
'Stapy' model

'Stapy' appears to be a 3D model of Starfy, but uses a texture file which gives it pink colours similar to Starly (スタピー, Stapy). Unlike Starly, this model has green eyes and is lacking Starly's pink bow.

Sta uo item
Viewing Starfy, the Unu and the big Pearl

'Sta uo item' appears to be a 3D model of Starfy facing a single Unu with a single big Pearl behind him. A similar scene appears in the landscape 'ccc', but is lacking the item. 'Sta uo item' shares the 'sinjyu2' (big Pearl), 'stafy face' (Starfy), 'uo 1' (Unu's eyes) and 'uo 2' (Unu's body) texture banks which are associated with the landscapes 'bg obj 03', 'ccc' and 'ddd'.

A similarly named file exists called 'Sta uo item2'. The file size of the model file is different, though it is seemingly the same as 'Sta uo item' when viewed. In both Super Princess Peach and Densetsu no Starfy 4, 'Sta uo item.nsbmd' and 'Sta uo item2.nsbmd' have file sizes of 6.00 kB and 5.94 kB respectively.

Waving Starfy

In Densetsu no Starfy 4, 'Stafy.nsbmd' is a flat object depicting artwork of Starfy raising his hand. This is similar to character artwork from Densetsu no Starfy 2. There is no texture file for the model, so the intended colors are not clear.

Note:

Model of the sad Starfy

In the Japanese versions of Super Princess Peach, 'Stafy.nsbmd' is a different file. This file is a 3D model of Starfy, which is assigned to a texture file that makes him appear sad.
