Gekyojii is a red elderly frog and Gekojii's distant relative. To Gekyojii, Gekoji is his second cousin’s sister in law’s second cousin. He is the one that teaches Starfy the Ultra Star Spin in Densetsu no Starfy 2. In Densetsu no Starfy 3 he lends Starly his old bass, the Legendary Bass, so they can put Gabun to sleep.

In Densetsu no Starfy 2

In the second stage of Torrential Falls, Starfy and Moe meet Gekyojii for the first time. Moe initially confuses him for Gekojii before Gekyojii corrects him and tells him that they're family. He bars their path, telling the two that the waterfalls are too dangerous without learning his dojo’s strongest technique, the Ultra Star Spin. After completing a test where Starfy has to hit every orb in the room in 100 seconds, Gekyojii lets Starfy and Moe pass, but expresses that Starfy had potential and could leave the dojo in his hands when he retires.

In Densetsu no Starfy 3

After Starfy obtains the Legendary Guitar from Gekojii, Starly goes off to find the Legendary Bass, where she runs into Gekyojii, meeting him for the first time. She asks him if he knows if one of the Legendary Instruments is in the area. He says that the Legendary Instrument is his, and that he’s looking for it as well, but can’t get to it anymore. He says that he’ll give the instrument to Starly, but that he would like to see it before he does. By using her Crawl and Wall Jump, Starly retrieves the Legendary Bass, to which Gekyojii reminisces about his time in the Legendary Band and reveals that he was a member (the other two being Gekojii and Jiilacanth).

Name Origin

• Gekyojii's name comes from a corruption of Geko (ゲコ), onomatopoeia for a croak or ribbit (though not as popular as Kero/ケロ) and Jiisan (爺さん), or "old man".

Trivia

• Gekyojii uses the pronoun Wagahai in Japanese. He is one of only two characters to use it, the other being Arcy.
  • Another frog character, Sgt. Frog from the series of the same name, also uses the pronoun Wagahai.
