The current Nintendo Logo

Nintendo Co., Ltd. (Japanese: 任天堂株式会社) is a multinational company that publishes games in The Legendary Starfy series. Nintendo have directed and produced games in the series with developer TOSE and share half of the copyright to the series. The inspiration for The Legendary Starfy series came from a directive from Nintendo producer Hitoshi Yamagami's boss in November 1995 to create some kind of 'floaty platformer'. Hitoshi Yamagami would later collaborate with TOSE producer Yasuhiro Minamimoto. A balloon-lifting game was in development until plans were changed and the main character was decided as a starfish in an early version of Densetsu no Starfy for the Game Boy. This character eventually became Starfy, who was featured in the Nintendo Space World 2000 trial demo for the Game Boy Color.

Nintendo have promoted various official merchandise for the series on official mini-sites for the games hosted on Nintendo.co.jp including things like Nintendo Official Guidebooks, the Densetsu no Starfy Trumps and stuffed toys. Nintendo owns the copyright to the tankōbon of The Legendary Starfy series manga with TOSE.
